"Creatives with Aloha" featuring Molly Jane Photography
Meet Molly Grant. Dog Mom. Photographer. Traveler. Dog Rescue Advocate. Founder of @mollyjanephotography based on Vancouver Island, BC but available anywhere!
Molly is an adventurer at heart and is available for local, destination and elopement weddings! I’ve had the opportunity to witness Molly at work, capturing memories for couples on their wedding day, and she most definitely LOVES what she does! It also shines through her gorgeous photography.
I love this quote from Molly’s website, “To create meaningful and visually compelling memories, I draw inspiration from the natural world and capturing authentic connections. Shooting almost entirely with natural light, my work reflects a timeless and organic aesthetic.” Her passion for photography and capturing couples at their best is very evident!
Q&A with Molly Grant
What's your favorite part about being a professional photographer?
“I've always been fascinated by people, as well as creating connections, but I feel that through my lens this love for observation is emphasized and it helps me understand people through little subtleties and nuances. I also love that now photography also informs how I interact with the world and people when my camera isn't in my hands. It's been a lifelong dream to do this job, so even just saying "I'm a photographer" is kind of the coolest thing in the world.”
The coolest destination you've traveled for Photography?
“Last year was one for the books. I shot a wedding in Greece and was able to travel around solo after. I also spent a month in Bali photographing pups for various animal shelters and hospitals. I'm heading back in February and will be doing some fun (humid) branding sessions this time around! And of course more doggo shoots.”
Hardest part of being a solo-entrepreneur?
“I find that especially with photography, there is this intense contrast between being "on" - you're directing people, thinking creatively on the spot, navigating multiple dynamics and personalities, sometimes running around like a crazy lady for 10 hours at a time, and the alternate of being somewhat isolated at your desk, editing for hours and listening to more podcasts than you'd think humanly possible. It's always so good to commiserate with other photographers, because you often forget that each of them experience the same emotional roller coaster that comes with the territory! I think having a network of people who can relate is so important to not feeling like you're going it alone. AND also learning how to wear the many hats involved with working for yourself.”
Favorite Food or Drink?
“Favourite food is without question Xiao Long Bao (Chinese Soup Dumplings). My love for them borders on obsession. My favourite drink would probably be a punchy sour beer in the summer.”
