MICHELLE SMITH INTERVIEW:

What did you want to be when you grew up?

When I was younger I wanted to be an actress. I loved acting and being in plays and it seemed like so much fun to be able to do that on a larger scale. While as an adult I'm happy that wasn't a career path that worked out, I can appreciate knowing that I wanted a job that was "fun" and something I would enjoy actually doing. Through the years, while what I do today can still feel like "work" on many days, I'm able to have fun with it and be creative.”

What 2020 has taught you about your business, or being an entrepreneur in general?

“2020 has taught me the importance of being resilient and flexible. I've been able to remove myself from set outcomes or feeling like one way was the only way to serve an audience. Being able to pivot in a timely manner should always be built into our businesses to accommodate the changing needs of our customer/consumer. We should acutely be tuned in to the needs of our customers/consumers to be able to fulfil their needs.”

Anything you want to say to “Women In Business”? Or those that aspire to start a business?

“Do it! After years of working for others, starting my own business has been the best path I've chosen to take thus far. I reached a crossroads when I had my first daughter and knew I would be faced with having to choose between her needs and the needs of my employer. It wasn't a choice I was willing to be making. That's when I decided to venture out and start my own business. From then on, the only person I had to answer to at the end of the day was myself. Working for myself has also given me the ability to be creative and explore different aspects of my business that I enjoy most.”

Charities Michelle Supports:

“I've been interested in the study of psychedelics in the mental health arena and have been very encouraged by recent scientific advancements in that field. As someone in the health and wellness space I know how incredibly important mental health is as a foundation to any other health endeavors. Seeing what organizations like MAPS (Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies) have been doing in that field have been inspiring and leaves me hopeful for future advancements in serving those struggling with mental health needs.”
