Q&A with Leah Nickel
What's one thing you can't live without?
“My family is the first thing that came to mind. I'm not sure how people can live away from parents and family, I still talk to my mom and dad daily. As far as material items go, coffee or tea and milk chocolate.”
Early bird or Night owl?
“Night owl, I had high hopes that having kids would change me in to an early bird but so far no such luck.”
What or who inspired you to become a photographer?
“My love for photography started in high school, when I took a photography class where we learned to develop our photographs, but it wasn't until a photographer friend of mine was upgrading her camera and I bought her second-hand camera with her promise of mentoring me, that I officially started photography.
My favourite photographer on Vancouver Island is Ashley Marston. I've been the nurse in the labour room while she was working as a birth photographer. I love the raw emotion she captures in her images, she is by far my most inspirational photographer.”
What's your favorite place to shoot on Vancouver Island?
“Sebastian Beach in Lantzville, BC is my number one favourite spot, the sunrises and sunsets are amazing.”
Self-taught or photography courses?
“Self-taught! With lots of mentorship from close friend photographers.”
Favorite flavor of icecream?
“Big ice cream fan and very particular, a DairyQueen Royal Reese Brownie with Cookie Dough added! (I promise I'm only high maintenance when it comes to ice cream!)”
Thank you Leah! Your kindness and love for family, fitness and animals radiates in your photography!
