Q&A with Mariah Milan
What's your favorite part about being a professional photographer in Hawaii?
“Many of my clients have never been before and watching them experience this place I love so much for the first time is really the coolest thing to be a part of.”
What did you want to be when you were a kid?
“I always said I was going to be an artist. I was that weird 6 year old walking around with Matisse and Van Gogh books.”
The coolest destination you've traveled for photography?
“Samoa - it was an amazing experience.”
What artist/music/place inspires your work?
“Every day has different light so I really try to see the variances of light and color every day. Reggae music is some of the happiest music in the world, and we have amazing local talent like Maoli and The Green. I'm always hummin’ their tunes.”
Any other fact about you, you’d like to share?
“I was born severely cross eyed and very poor. An optometrist gifted me with the most amazing Christmas present when I was two and performed eye surgery free of charge. That act of kindness changed the course of my life!”
