"Creatives with Aloha" featuring Kim Jay Photography

Photography is an art of observation. It has little to do with the things you see and everything to do with the way you see them.

Q&A with Kim Jay:

What's your favorite part about being a professional photographer?

“There are so many aspects of my job that I enjoy! If I have to pick just one - I love getting to work with interesting people. When I  dive into a client's passion project and help their vision come to life, it's really rewarding. Collaboration, trust and good communication are all a part of my mandate, so when a great partnership comes along, I get inspired and that's great fuel for the job!”

The coolest destination you've traveled for photography?

“I've been able to travel internationally for my work - I worked in Portugal, Thailand, Zambia, and the States. But getting to explore what is my own (big) backyard, has been a real eye opener. Canada is huge and really diverse! There are so many gems to see. In 2020, I plan to explore more of BC's interior, and head up to the north of Vancouver Island.”

What brand of camera do you use?

“I've just made the switch to Sony from Canon, and I'm really happy about it.  I had been a Canon shooter for the last 10 years, so changing felt like I was cheating! But Sony is ahead of the game with mirrorless technology. And it's fun to learn a new system!”

What did you want to be when you grew up?

“I wanted to be a lawyer or an actress/singer - interesting diversity! Lol”

Baked or Fried?

“Baked!! ;)”

Cats or Dogs?

Ahhhh, if I have to pick - cats, but I love all furry creatures!”

Thank you Kim Jay!
