Meet Rachel Saunders. Multidisciplinary Artist. Designer. Trend setter. Potter. Traveler. Online Entrepreneur. Creator of @rachelsaundersceramics based on the west coast of Canada.

All pieces, both wheel-thrown and hand-built, are made by Rachel herself. She places value on simplicity, functionality, sustainability and playfulness. I particularly LOVE her Woman Vase in Matisse Blue! A true “ode to women everywhere.” Each one takes multiple steps to make over a couple of weeks! Rachel’s website explains more detail about the wheel-thrown and hand altered stoneware vases. “In the nature of the subject, each vase is a completely one of a kind, original sculpture. Each piece undergoes a multi-step process beginning on the wheel. Once thrown, the stoneware vessel is then carefully hand formed and detailed to create a unique share, each slightly differing from the rest. In each Woman Vase you will find similarities and natural flaws, adding to the beauty of the whole.”

Rachel, a young creative, with a rapidly growing online business, is the perfect inspiration for others with an entrepreneurial spirit who want to start their own business in their 20’s. With customers worldwide (in over 25 countries), Rachel proves the power of a strong brand, and online presence. Following your dreams and creating a successful business takes immense work and hours honing your craft, and Rachel is up to the challenge.

Q&A with Rachel Saunders

What's your favorite part about ceramics and working with clay?

“The fact that it feels limitless in possibility, and how much it teaches me about life on a larger scale.”

What or Who inspired you to become an artist?

“I think everyone is an artist in some way, but I became one professionally out of the intense desire to create and connect in a way that spoke to me. Ceramics was a medium that immediately felt so in alignment with many of my values and innate skills.”

Favorite place on the planet?

“Probably Mexico, it has so much richness and diversity that inspires me deeply.”

What is a non-negotiable in your schedule?

Having a long luxurious morning doing whatever I want/need to do. I’ve built a life where I can make my own hours because I require a lot of freedom and self-care to show up as my best version of self.

Early bird or Night owl?

“Night owl!”
