This fabulous #creativewithaloha has been featured for her marvellous dessert creations in Martha Steward Weddings and provides so much sweetness to Vancouver Island. Laura, is an energetic entrepreneur, and specializes in custom wedding cakes, dessert tables, cupcakes, cookies and cake pops.
Q&A with Laura Kalynchuk
Who inspired you to become a cake designer?
“My Aunt is a trained chef and pastry chef. She went to school in Paris in the 80s. My Aunt and Uncle had a restaurant and catering company in town and she made gorgeous desserts and weddings cakes. I went to pastry school in Edmonton, AB after working in bakeries for a couple of years and discovered my love for cake decorating.”
Most unique dessert you’ve been hired to make?
“I was once hired to make a groom’s cake to replicate his jeep pulling his friend’s truck out of a ditch!”
Favorite place on earth?
“My favorite place is definitely Maui! I come here every fall to reset the soul after wedding season.”
Early bird or night owl?
“Tired afternoon duck. Ha”
Fun Fact:
“I compete with an adult ladies synchronized skating team!”
